The collective management of 229 dead bodies that were swept away by the devastating Bhotekoshi flood and reached Chitwan and could not be identified is starting today. District Administration Office Chitwan has taken this important decision keeping in mind the health risk and potential epidemic. According to the administration, a total of 233 dead bodies were collected from various river coastal areas of Chitwan district so far. Only four of them have been identified. The remaining 229 bodies have been kept in holding centers and various health institutions for a long time.
After the report of the health experts that there is a big risk of infection and epidemic from these rotten and unrecognizable corpses, the District Security Committee of Chitwan has reached a solid decision to manage the corpses. According to the decision of the District Security Committee, those dead bodies will be managed underground in accordance with the provisions of the 'Management of Unidentified and Abandoned Bodies (First Amendment) Guidelines, 2083'. Previously, a DNA sample would be compulsorily collected from each corpse and archived based on a reference number.
An open place at Devghat, located in Ward No. 1 of Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality, has been selected for dead body management. Due to this compelling situation, the administration has sincerely apologized for the inconvenience caused to the families of the victims.
