The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has made high-level decisions to speed up the rescue and relief work after the devastating landslide in Guirong County, located in Southwest China's Tibet (Xizang) Autonomous Region. While presiding over the Party leadership's Political Bureau meeting held on Friday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, instructed to make the rescue operation scientific and effective.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Xi and other senior leaders present paid their respects to the victims who lost their lives in the landslide at the Gyirong border crossing on Wednesday and observed a minute of silence. The meeting said that under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, intensive and systematic efforts are being made for emergency rescue, rehabilitation of the affected and post-disaster situation management. Due to steep valleys, adverse weather conditions, glaciers, glaciers and complex geological structures, rescue operations in the extremely cold plateau region have become very challenging.
It has been emphasized that priority should be given to the scientific investigation of the missing persons. Search and rescue plans will be scientifically prepared and every effort will be made to search and rescue all missing Chinese and foreign nationals. All agencies and departments related to rescue have been instructed to take more effective and firm steps.
In addition, since the landslides have also affected the border areas of Nepal, China has decided to provide emergency aid to the disaster-affected areas of Nepal and conduct international rescue assistance.
