Within a few days of the devastating flood in the Nepal-China border area, there is a risk of another major flood. China has warned that the amount of water in the new natural lake built in the Nepal-Tibet border area is increasing rapidly, and if the natural dam of the lake breaks, there may be another major flood in the lower region. The flow of the river was blocked last Wednesday after an avalanche and a large amount of rock, snow and mud fell. Due to this, there was a big flood in the border area of Nepal and China. The flood has caused great damage to settlements, roads, bridges and other structures around the river. Now, while rescue and search operations are continuing, more risks have arisen after the creation of a new natural lake. According to Chinese officials, the natural lake formed at the confluence of the Chochen River and the Purepu Changpo River had accumulated about two million cubic meters of water by Thursday.

It is estimated that more than 3 million cubic meters of water can be added to the lake in the next three days. Officials said that as the level of water in the lake increases, the risk of its natural dam bursting increases. If a natural dam suddenly breaks, large quantities of water, rocks, mud and other debris can flow rapidly into low-lying areas. This has increased the risk of another major flood in areas already affected by floods. Officials of both Nepal and China have asked for more vigilance on the river banks. China is constantly monitoring the condition of the lake keeping in mind the possible risks.

Chinese officials are conducting aerial inspections, water flow studies and computer modeling of the potential impact of flooding. It is said that the technical team is also studying the way to safely drain the water from the natural dam. Meanwhile, due to the possibility of new floods, more challenges have arisen in the rescue work. According to the Chinese media, some rescue teams on the Chinese side of Tibet have been stopped in a safe place due to the risk of flooding again.

This decision was taken after the water came out of the lake and the rescue team started reaching the area. Officials said that the risk is high even though it is not certain that the flood will happen again. In particular, the amount of rain and the amount of water added to the lake over the next few days will determine the risk. Therefore, the common people who are on the banks of rivers, streams and in the possible path of flooding are requested to be on high alert and be ready to move to a safe place if necessary.
