The goal is to add 1,000 megawatts of electricity within a year

Kathmandu, 31 June.  With the aim of taking Nepal's energy sector to a new height, the government has announced an ambitious plan for the expansion of power generation and transmission infrastructure for the next financial year. The Ministry of Energy has launched a multifaceted program focusing on increasing production capacity, expanding access to electricity and strengthening the transmission system. According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, an additional 1,400 megawatts of electricity will be added to the national electricity system within the next financial year. Along with this, the country's total connected power generation capacity is set to reach 5,335 MW. The ministry plans to pay special attention to complete hydropower projects that are under construction and in the final stages on time.

Along with power generation, expansion of transmission lines has also been given priority. Next year, the length of 66 kV transmission lines will be extended to 7,808 circuit kilometers and 33 kV lines will be extended to 8,429 circuit kilometers. In addition, the target of completing 12 transmission line projects has also been set. The government has planned to increase per capita electricity consumption to 511 kilowatt hours and limit electricity leakage to 12.03 percent. 43 MW will be added from small and micro hydropower projects and additional 99 MW from solar energy.

Along with energy, irrigation and river control programs will also be carried forward together. In the coming year, the government has taken the goal of expanding irrigation facilities in 15 thousand 776 hectares and protecting agricultural land by constructing 70 kilometers of embankment.
