Resignation by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has resigned from the post. After holding a high-level discussion with Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) for about 20 minutes on Wednesday, he announced his resignation on moral grounds. It was said that the meeting at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers focused on the peace and security situation of the country and good governance. Earlier on Tuesday only, Minister Gurung held a five-hour long meeting with the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the Home Secretary and the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu.

But recently, after the issue of Minister Gurung's share in a related company and partnership with middleman Deepak Bhatt came to light, he came under criticism. He resigned at a time when widespread questions were being raised in the public about this issue. In a statement released through social media, Gurung mentioned that he has been performing his duties honestly since March 13 and said that he has taken the questions and public interest that have been raised in recent days seriously.

He has clarified that he has resigned to pave the way for a fair investigation and remove the suspicion of 'conflict of interest' by saying that "ethics and public trust are more important than positions". Also, mentioning that the Gen Z movement, which is rising demanding good governance, transparency and accountability in the country, has given the message that public life should be clean, he called on everyone to move on the path of truth, honesty and self-purification. With the resignation of Gurung, it is seen that more pressure will increase on the current government regarding good governance and transparency.
