Companies listed in the Nepali stock market will now be allowed to be listed in foreign stock markets as well. This arrangement is expected to provide new opportunities for Nepali companies to raise capital at the international level. Presenting the budget for the next fiscal year 2083/84, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle made such an important announcement. It is said in the budget statement, "We will make arrangements to issue Global Depository Receipts (GDR) to companies listed in Nepal's stock market after completing the prescribed process to be listed in the foreign stock market." Under this arrangement, Nepali companies will be able to offer their shares in foreign currency to foreign investors, which will help their financial capacity and expansion.
Meanwhile, the government will take strict action against the unwanted activities in the capital market. Finance Minister Wagle has made it clear that a zero tolerance policy will be adopted to prevent illegal and unethical activities such as share cornering and insider trading. It is believed that this will protect the interests of investors and increase confidence in the market. These policy arrangements will play an important role in making the Nepali capital market more mature, transparent and in line with international standards.
