CPN's objection to the ban on squatters and student organizations

Kathmandu, 6 Baisakh. The Nepali Communist Party has expressed serious objection to the government's recent actions of evicting squatter families without proper alternatives and demolishing houses in various parts of the country.   In a press statement issued by the party on Sunday, it called such a move "inhumane" and demanded the government to immediately stop it and arrange for rehabilitation.   In the statement, it is mentioned that the activities carried out in the name of squatter management have disturbed the victim's families and the danger of weakening the trust in the state among the marginalized communities has increased. "We request the government not to do such things without making arrangements for proper rehabilitation," the statement said.

Meanwhile, after the formation of the new government, the party has also demanded immediate control of the increase in prices and black market in the market.  The party has considered the attempt to ban student organizations as unconstitutional and unacceptable. Serious concern has been expressed regarding this as an attempt to take away the right to organize in the federal democratic republic, which was enjoyed even during the Panchayat system. Also, attempts to ban trade unions violate constitutional rights and international treaties.

Mentioning that people expect good governance, social justice and prosperity from the current government, the party welcomed the positive programs. But the biased and one-sided trend seen in governance and parliamentary practice has raised concerns, the statement said. The party urged the government to be more democratic, responsive and inclusive and emphasized that it should be responsible towards squatters, farmers, laborers and oppressed communities. "Consolidation of democracy cannot be achieved by taking away rights or uprooting people's homes," the statement said.
