Carrying the burden of public opinion, Ravi Lamichhane: 'You wrote the history, we will make the future'

Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA), said that the public support of about two-thirds of his party raised great hopes and expectations and alerted the MPs to protect it. He reiterated the party's commitment to the democratic system, the current system and the constitution, and also indicated the need for reform in the governance system. Speaking at the conclusion of an orientation program for MPs held at Gwarko in Lalitpur, Lamichhane pointed out the need to break the perception that RSVP and its supporters are presented as 'chaotic' and 'intolerant'. He instructed the MPs not to make unnecessary comments on other political parties or opposition and to respect the contribution, sacrifice and dedication of old parties and leaders in building the country.

"No one person or party has a hand in making history," said Lamichhane, "we have reached this place today only after the sacrifices and penances of the old political parties and leaders. We certainly have questions about their many shortcomings, but none of us has the right to ignore the contribution they have made. They wrote history, now we draw the future." He warned that it would lead to calamities if his statements were sarcastic towards other parties or the opposition. "Being a winner means being responsible, not being lazy," he clarified.

Pointing to the "chaotic" and "intolerant" image of the supporters of the RSVP, Chairman Lamichhane said, "Now we have to get out of that image. I request all the supporters of the RSVP to express themselves responsibly, and present themselves responsibly on social networks." Explaining the party's victory as the country's victory, he said, "This is not the victory of the RSVP, the country has won. We are standing at a very sensitive and hard-working time, so I request you to move forward with more effort."
